What is a Pile Integrity Tester (PIT)?

A pile integrity tester (PIT) is a non-destructive testing tool used in low-strain pile testing to assess pile quality, length, and structural integrity. The PET system by Piletest is one of the most advanced and user-friendly PIT testing solutions, providing real-time data analysis and high-speed testing capabilities.

The PET is ideal for:

  • Ensuring pile quality and detecting potential defects

  • Verifying as-built pile length & continuity

  • Assessing deep foundation integrity quickly & accurately

  • Meeting global compliance standards for PIT testing

Whether you are conducting a single PIT test or assessing hundreds of piles per site, the PET pile integrity test equipment offers a cost-effective, efficient, and highly accurate solution for your foundation testing needs.

Befor you start, check if the dimensions of the pile to be tested are within the test methods' slenderness limitations. Use the calculator in the button below.

How Does a PIT Test Work?

The Pile Integrity Test (PIT) is a low strain dynamic test that determines pile continuity, length, and defects by analyzing stress wave reflections. The PET system employs the Pulse Echo Method (PEM), ensuring accurate and real-time pile testing results.

Step-by-Step Process for Conducting a PIT Test:

  1. Attach the Digital Accelerometer – The PET’s high-sensitivity sensor is placed on the pile head with some putty.

  2. Strike the Pile with a Handheld Hammer – A light hammer impact generates a stress wave that travels through the pile.

  3. Analyze the Reflected Waveform (Reflectogram) – The PET system captures & interprets the wave reflections from the pile to determine pile length & integrity.

  4. Generate an Instant PIT Test Report – Engineers can review data on-site with PET’s advanced software for immediate decision-making, easily editing it on MS WORD.

Understanding Reflectograms with Pilewave Simulator:

The PET’s Pilewave software allows engineers to simulate, analyze, and interpret reflectograms, making it easier to detect pile defects, discontinuities, and anomalies.

PET Pile Integrity Test Equipment – Key Features & Advantages

1. Fast & User-Friendly PIT Testing

  • No Special Training Needed – Self-taught operation within hours.

  • Single-Operator Testing – One person can test 100+ piles per hour.

  • Automatic Smart Trigger – Ensures precise data capture for accurate results.

2. High-Quality Signal Analysis

  • Very Low Noise Levels – Extends the testing limits for longer piles.

  • Real-Time Waveform Interpretation – Quickly detects pile defects & anomalies.

  • Dual Analysis Mode – Time-domain (Reflectogram) & Frequency-domain (FFT Analysis).

  • Real pile shape assessment - Using a built-in signal-matching feature.

3. Multi-Device Connectivity & Compatibility

  • USB Model – Plug into any Windows PC or Tablet for instant results.

  • Bluetooth Model – Wirelessly connect to an Android smartphone or tablet.

  • Unlimited Software Licenses – Install PET software on multiple devices without restrictions.

4. Industry-Standard Compliance & Rugged Design

  • Meets ASTM D5882 & AFNOR P160-2,4 Standards for Low Strain Pile Testing.

  • IP68 Certified – Dustproof & Waterproof, designed for harsh site conditions.

  • Long Battery Life – Bluetooth model runs up to 500 piles on just 2 AAA batteries, which can be easily replaced on site.

“Have been using PET for over 10 years – it’s fast, reliable, and easy to use.” – Engineer, India

Why PET is Better than Other Pile Integrity Testers

Unlike other pile integrity test equipment, the PET system offers:

  • Faster Data Collection – Test 2× more piles per hour than traditional PIT devices.

  • Higher Signal Accuracy – Low-noise sensors capture clear reflectograms for detailed analysis.

  • Wireless Flexibility – Bluetooth-enabled PIT testing for mobile field operations on Windows or Android computers.

  • No Hidden Costs – One-time purchase, unlimited software licenses, & free updates.

  • 3-Year Standard Hardware Warranty (Industry Best)

  • Complementary Second Opinion Support (SOS) service on reports
